March 2013:

Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans Act

The bill basically:



§ Ensures that medical research will be reviewed in every cycle of legislation

§  Currently, the guidelines only have to be reviewed every 5 years—not upon newest research found

-The President’s Council on Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition, as well as the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotions, recently released records verifying that obesity ratings were rising dramatically as physical activity levels plummet

January 2013:
o HELP America Act: Healthier Lifestyles and Prevention America Act
o Agenda of this bill includes:
    § Encouraging proper nutrition    
amongst American families and during school lunches

    §  Increasing physical activity amongst teens and children in the United States

    §  Encouraging a healthier workforce to help prevent obesity in adulthood


o SPONSORED: Senator Tom Harkin (Iowa)

2011:

Fresh Regional Eating for Schools and Health Act of 2011

This bill:

-Intends to make healthy farmer grown food affordable for more Americans by attempting to amend several previous bills such as:

  • The Food and Nutrition Act of 2008
  • The Richard B. Russell National School Lunch Act
  • The Child Nutrition Act of 1966
